GS Academy

Underlying philosophy

As a former Amateur Champion and now professional for more than 15 years Gordon has the experience of playing in major tournaments, playing with the world’s top players and has worked with golf’s best coaches. Gordon has a philosophy that guides every aspect of his golf tuition, mentoring and coaching activities. “Quite simply there is more to playing top level sport than only working on technique. My approach encompasses many areas that lead to a consistent High Performance, including: mental toughness, swing technique, short game technique, putting philosophy, golf fitness, course management, practise regimes and tournament preparation.

Academy programmes

Based at the highly rated Bob Torrance School of Golf in Largs, Scotland, the Gordon Sherry Golf Academy has the use of the very latest golf coaching and practice facilities. Applicants range from a youngster trying to get to scratch from a 9 handicap, to an established amateur trying to make a transition into the professional ranks, to a professional trying to get himself or herself onto the tour.

Several young British boys and girls have won scholarships to study in the US, supported by the Academy. For each one, there is an agreed number of coaching days spent with Gordon, attendance at practice sessions, and personal support through live video links, telephone and email.

The Academy programmes bring in the expertise of sports psychologists, golf fitness biomechanics specialists and other talented specialists to help its clients. As well as those in full time education, the GS Academy also provides golf career management to promising professionals and amateurs who already play at a good level but need to further develop their skills. Each client has a tailored regime with as much or as little involvement from Gordon as they require. This could be as simple as a single day of coaching, a short course of intensive golf tuition, or ongoing golf mentoring.

Sponsorship and bursaries

In order to develop the Academy further and give vital support to young British talent, more sponsors are needed. “We could do so much more to develop the potential of this country’s young golfers with additional business sponsors,” says Gordon. “At the moment it is difficult for youngsters to find the funding for their professional development, and this is holding them back. There are some great opportunities, particularly around corporate golf activities, in return for providing bursaries and scholarships.” Please contact us to arrange a meeting so that we can highlight the many opportunities that exist.
